Unhealthy cravings might come from

  • Strong memories
  • Overstimulated Pleasure center in the brain
  • Habits
  • Too big Calorie deficit
  • Nutritional deficiencies, dehydration
  • Reward
  • Hormonal imbalance , such as leptin and serotonin from lack of sleep and stress
  • Like lack of sleep, ongoing stress causes the body to increase levels of cortisol and other hormones connected to hunger . Studies show this hormone tsunami increases appetite — along with your desire for sugary and fatty foods.
  • Lack of energy from poor sleep quality
  • Cravings also involve the appetite centers of the brain, even though they tend to be separate from hunger.
